What is MTHFR and Methylation?

MTHFR is a gene variant that can hinder methylation and detox. Many of those fighting chronic health issues also have an MTHFR variant. When someone does not take an active role in managing their health they will feel absolutely awful. To overcome this issue means you should live like no one else. This will be new to you but necessary to impact quality of life.

Be careful out there because there is an abundance of false information on the internet. We have over 20 years of experience and closely follow the research of Dr. Ben Lynch.

The price for us to run a lab checking MTHFR for you is $175 per person and comes with a what to do next guide. Test kits are delivered to your home. A swab of the inside of your mouth is sent to the lab with results usually available in 2 weeks. Available in all 50 United States except NY, NJ, RI. Contact us to order. Automated ordering coming soon.

MTHFR Tips and Hacks

  • No smoking, vaping, etc.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages, especially wine.
  • Drink reverse osmosis filtered water.
  • Eat whole foods such as meats, fats, legumes, veggies, fruit and some grains. (hint: these foods do not have an ingredient list on the label).
  • NO synthetic folic acid. Those with MTHFR have trouble with it. Read the food ingredients! A red flag is anything labeled enriched or fortified. Don't believe us? Cut folic acid out for 30 days then try it to see how you feel.
  • Get your folate from green veggies.
  • Although we don't do it, one could consider supplementing with folinic acid.
  • Also be careful with methylfolate as we have seen it cause migraine headaches.
  • Avoid the following:
  • Fried foods
  • Processed foods that are laced with chemicals. (hint: these foods come in a box or package and have an ingredient list.
  • Antacids
  • Using the fireplace.
  • Swimming pools and hot tubs that are full of chlorine or bromine.
  • Limit the following:
  • Sugar, dairy, corn
  • Citric acid (found in many food and drinks)
  • Artificial colors and preservatives
  • Dried fruits with chemicals
  • Peanuts and peanut butter- If you must have a little peanut butter, get the good kind that only has peanuts and sea salt.
  • Mold-free coffee can be okay in moderation.
  • Turn on the exhaust fan every time you cook.
  • Remove toxic air fresheners from your car and home.
  • When possible, make it a priority to spend time outdoors.
  • Folic acid blocking drugs such as birth control and Methotrexate can be a problem. Check with your doctor. Nitrous oxide (used by some dentists) can also be a problem.
  • It's also very important to fix the gut, get high quality sleep, work up a sweat (1-3 times a week if tolerated) and reduce stressors.

In summary it is not one toxic thing that brings you down but rather the accumulation of all the toxic things that is an issue. So we must do our best to remove exposure to toxicity.

To avoid overwhelm try making one change a week, then evaluate how much better you feel. Some changes will give you a bigger boost.

Remember it is also very important to fix the gut, get high quality sleep, work up a sweat (1-3 times a week if tolerated) and reduce stressors (many of which are hidden that can be found with lab tests).

Without guidance, DIY can be frustrating. Knowing what to prioritize depends on health history and current status. This can change week to week which is why partnering with us is highly recommended.

Get Started, Get Results!

Our goal is to be the last practitioner you meet with regarding your main health complaint.

We love doctors and will work with yours to reach better outcomes. Their services provide great value but can have limitations when it comes to chronic health issues. Allopathic methods of medication and surgery are expensive and usually come with risk.

In addition, low health insurance reimbursements don't give doctors time to fully listen and coach you along the way.

Partner with us when you are ready to get results.
